Brief Review at China Toy Import & Export Statistics in 2018
Since China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of toys and kids products accounting for over 50% of the world's total, it is essential for industry insiders to learn about the development and trends of China toy industry.
In this edition, CTE will take you on a journey to better understand the China Toy Industry through a partial review of the China Toy Import & Export Report officially released by CTJPA based on data resources from General Administration of Customs of P.R.C.
Chinese customs statistics show that China's traditional toy imports and exports totaled US$25.733 billion in 2018, up by 4.5% year-on-year.
The monthly trend of traditional toy exports showed quarterly changes with fluctuating growth rates. The monthly export volume continued to increase in the second and third quarters, reaching a peak of US$3.056 billion in October.
In 2018, exports of traditional toys to the United States totaled US$7.244 billion, up by 4.44% year-on-year, accounting for 28.88% of China’s total traditional toys exports. Exports to countries along the Belt and Road routes amounted to US$5.603 billion, down by 10.61% year-on-year, with the proportion of exports falling by 3.24 percentage points.
In 2018, the top 10 export destinations for China’s traditional toys are: The United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Russia, Mexico and Kazakhstan. Exports to the above-mentioned 10 destinations accounted for 58.76% of total exports. China’s traditional toys Exports to India and Mexico both increased significantly, up by 78.45% and 35.32%, respectively.
Guangdong ranked first among Chinese provinces in terms of traditional toys exports. In 2018, the traditional toys exports of Guangdong province totaled US$13.711 billion, up by 5.12% year-on-year, accounting for 54.66% of China’s total toy exports.
